i have the same problem with my acer aspire notebook, on windows vista basic, i go on to youtube and itunes and it plays sound but when i put a dvd in to watch der no sound an i have tried playing it on different media software but still nothing help some please.

I think that it is a software problem...dvd needs some plugins that you actual video software cannot process.
