Overwriting an existing i tunes on old ipod

Hello,

I have created a new i tunes on my mum's computer and imported all her cds to it. I now want to put this i tunes onto an old ipod that already has songs on it.

When I plug in the ipod in then the message showing on the computer is 'updating ipod' and the message on the ipod is do not disconnect but then it freezes and nothing seems to happen (I have left it for hours). When I start task manager it says itunes not responding.


Can anyone help? How do I shift the old itunes and overwrite it with the new one - I thought it would just do this automatically!!
