Router not connecting to internet

here's the deal:
When i connect to the internet using the ethernet cable directly from the modem to my laptop i have internet connection. But when i plug the ethernet cable from the modem to the router, and from the router to the laptop i get no connection. The lights in my modemare perfect and are what should be. but for some reason my router is not letting get connected. please help. I am using a linksys WRT54G V8.

Did it work previously ? The Linksys site would be the best place to look for help.

Yes it worked fine for over a year... i dont know whats going on with it now. it just started giving me this problem like 3 days ago.

You might try a hard restart of the router. There is a small hole on the back panel where you can push in a ball point pen (or a straightened paperclip) That will reset the router to factory defaults.

have you tried to logon to router? I think Linksys routers use the following address:

enter http://192.168.1.1/ in your browser address line

did you try reseting router then plug the modem then computer so it can adjust the their settings
