Hello,

ello,
i have a Windows XP sound device driver installed but no sound plays from my laptop at all. If i go onto windows media player a warning pops up saying:
"Windows Media Player cannot play the file because there is a problem with your sound device. There may not be a sound device installed on your computer, it may be in use by another program, or it may not be functioning properly."
when i go to properties, it says:
Legacy Audio Drivers
Device Type - Sound, video and game controllers
Manufacturer - (Standard system devices)
Location - Unknown.
It also says that it is working properly and does not need updated.
please help?

Hello,

Try this 1

Click on Start --> Run--> Type services.msc --> press Enter.

"Services" window will be opened.

At right side, scroll down for the "Windows Audio" --> Double click on the

"Windows Audio". "Windows Audio Properties" window will be opened.

Set "Startup" type to " Automatic" from the drop-down menu ---> Click

on "Start" button.

(Note: If the service is already started then stop it by clicking on "Stop" button

and then click on "Start" button to start the service)

Click on OK.

Good Luck
