My ipod restore

Hello,
I have a ipod and i went to update it through itunes but failed to backup anything now my ipod is showing a usb cord on the screen pointing to itunes.what do i do to restore everything or at least get it to show something?? help please

I suggest you try a different USB port. Sometimes the front USB ports on a desktop computer have problems with ipod syncing. I would try one of the rear ports.

For a laptop I suggest you update the USB driver software.
