If the laptop works on battery power - you have a problem with the charger and/or the plug for the charger/laptop. Often the plug itself will break or pull loose from the laptop motherboard. You could locate a computer shop that stocks a replacement power supply and try your laptop using their charger before you buy a new one. Good Luck
