My external harddisk not able to format

I am using transcend external hard disk 500GB memory and installed store jet utility. For the last two week back, while copy the document from my PC into external hard disk getting the following error:
"Drive is read only. Please remove the read only format and try again"
But I didn't know how to change read only format. So I decide to format the hard disk. But I am not able to format
Kindly advice how to change the read only into read-write option and also how to format.
Note: Now I am not able to access my hard disk.

my dear when u plug the external hard disk then just do right click goto properties >-change the format
...thats it................................over
