Hello,
My pc is not recognizing my external hard drive as such. It is calling it the same drive letter, but before it had the Name of it, the manufacturer and it's capacity and I could access it. Now it is calling it 'Storage Device' and the incorrect manufacturer and i can not access any of my files and it's asking me to reformat. I do not wanna do that, bc I will lose a lot if data on it. But how do I get it to work properly again. I have uninstalled and installed again. there are no drivers CD or downloads for it. I have the Apollo expert d200 external HDD but it is recognized as HITACHI HDS7 and though it says it is working properly. it is not... PLEASE HELP!

Best thing to do would be to run a check disk on it.

find out the drive letter

go to start > run > type cmd > ok

then type:

chkdsk /f /r driveletter:

enter

let it run and see what happens.

I did as you suggested and this is the response I got post scan.
"An error occured while reading the file allocation table <FAT1>.
An error occured while reading the file allocation table <FAT 2>.
There are no readable file allocation tables <FAT>."

what happens if you try converting the file structure of the drive to NTFS?

again, go to start > run > cmd > ok

type convert <driveletter:> /FS:NTFS

hit enter
