Acer Aspire Laptop and and External Screen?

Hello,
I have an Acer Aspire 9400 that the monitor has died. I have it connected to an external monitor but when i turn it on, it shows everything fine until the computer reaches the Windows Logo. Once it goes to transition to the log in screen the monitor goes black and says it is entering power save mode.
Here is what I have tried so far:
Restarting the computer
Switching Video input in the monitor
Switching the Monitor output on the laptop
Still nothing...any suggestions?
