New ipod, new itunes.... fail!!!!

Hello,
Hello, i was recently made redundant, got a new job splashed out with windfall on an ipod classic. my old media player dying.... ipod works lovely but my laptop does not like i tunes it down loaded ok its on my programs menu but wont actually fire up..... but it seems nonetheless to have frozen my old media player which has ALL of my music on it!!!!
so while i deal with the prospect of having to rebuy all my music how do i solve the itunes problem???
