i recently changed from xp on my pc to vista, and now the sound does not work alls i get is a red cross saying no audio device installed or out put etc, av had a look in device manager cant find what the sound card if any is called, there was a yellow symbol byy something in the others section but, windows cant find an update, please help, i'm assuming i just need a driver but i aint got a clue which one etc, my motherboard is a P4M800PRO-M, and was working fine on xp, also there is a low crackling sound coming out of the speakers when volume right up, but no sound, they power up etc
If there are yellow exclamation marks beside any one of the audio devices, it isn't working or the driver has not been installed correctly. Remove the faulty device using remove tab, and then go to the WINDOWS\INF\OTHER directory and delete the REALTEK*.INF file.
You can now re-start the system to install the driver again or simply install through "add new hardware" from the control panel.
i have just had a look on the motherboard instructions, all it says about audio is this,
* Compliant with AC'97 v2.3 CODEC
* Supports 6-channel audio CODEC designed for PC multimedia systems
* Provides three analogue line-level stereo inputs with 5-bit volume control:
Line-in, CD, AUX
* Meets Microsoft WHQL/WLP 2.0 audio requirements
