Hello, my computer now uses Internet Explorer as the program to open all of my files. All of my icons have become the internet explorer icon and I now am very limited to what I can open and how. Rainmeter for example won't open and every time I turn on my computer something pops up that says view and track your downloads yet the options to open or save do not work. I am pretty sure I know what I did to cause it, I just have no idea how to fix it. I downloaded something in a WinRAR and then couldn't figure out how to open it so I chose to - open with - internet explorer and since then I have had this problem. I think I need to switch what everything opens with back to its default but 1. that could be totally wrong and 2. I have no idea how to do that. I am not very adept with a computer so I would appreciate details in explanations please. Thanks.

Hi Clo15,

As you mentioned, the problem started after you open the RAR file from Internet. I think your computer has acquired some virus/malware. Kindly, check the below mentioned link:

Please go through the response by Ambucias. Also, you can seek his help on this.

Please revert for clarification.

Hello Zohaib,

I'm sorry but I'm not entirely sure what it is that you want me to do. Which of his responses should I look at and what should I do? Again, I'm not familiar with any of this so I'm sorry for any dumb questions I may ask.

Hi Clo15,

I am sorry my reply was not clear. The link that I provided you has a reply from Site Moderator Ambucias. He has mentioned in this link a way to diagnose the computer using a free tool. This will require you to download an application to your computer and then you will have to post the logs created by the scan. It is recommended you seek Ambucias' help on this. All you need to do is send a direct message to Ambucias seeking help.

Please revert for clarification.
