Hi john1892,
This issue may occur if one or more of the following conditions are true:
1. The basic input/output system (BIOS) does not detect the hard disk.
2. The hard disk is damaged.
3. Sector 0 of the physical hard disk drive has an incorrect or malformed master boot record (MBR).
4. An incompatible partition is marked as Active.
5. A partition that contains the MBR is no longer active.
Please try the below mentioned steps and check if this fixes the problem:
1. Confirm the Hard Drive is recognized in BIOS. If yes, follow next step. If no, load BIOS defaults and reseat the Hard Drive. If still not detected replace the Hard Drive.
Note: This step requires you to reseat the Hard Drive by removing the system cover/taking apart the chassis. Please perform this step only if you are comfortable else seek a technician's help. Also, refer to the Service Manual for accurate steps and safety instructions.
2. Run diagnostics test (if any) provided by Acer and confirm no errors on Hard Drive. If test fails, contact Acer Support, else follow next Step.
3. If you are using Windows Vista or Windows 7, please run Start Up repair. For steps on how to run Start Up repair please check this link: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/windows?ui=en-US&rs=en-001&ad=US
4. Do PC restore or Recovery from the Recovery Partition (if any) on the Hard Drive. (Refer to service manual).
5. If PC Restore fails, perform Operating System Reinstallation with Windows disc. Note: you will lose all the data if the Operating System is reinstalled.
Do reply with results.
