I just installed from disk Windows XP Professional SP2 on a new hard drive followed by all driver and software from disks originally provided with the computer. I can connect to my LAN both wired and wirelessly, but can't get on the internet (Internet Explorer 10). I get the old "page cannot be displayed" page with bottom notation "Cannot find server or DNS error".

I've tried a bunch of ideas from the web (using another computer on the same LAN), but to no avail.

Any ideas?

Hello,

Try this 1

Click on Start --> Run --> Type cmd and press Enter.

"Command Prompt" will be opened. Now enter the below commands.

ipconfig /release --> Press Enter.

I had already been through the standard IPCONFIG stuff...to no avail. Did some more web snooping and found http://www.softpedia.com/get/Tweak/Network-Tweak/WinSockFix.shtml which solved the problem. Thanks for responding and your willingness to help!!!
