Hard Drive Failure

Hello, my laptop has been warning me for a long time that the hard drive going to fail so i backed up all my important file etc but the other day i put a few more photos on my laptop (stupidly i know) without backing them up and my laptop will now not start up. I assume the hard drive has finally given up but can anybody please tell me if there is any possible way of being able to salvage some things from the hard drive or should i just give up hope?
