Power and charging light, light up but black screen

Hello. My laptop (my laptops a 2007 Sony Laptop using Windows Vista) was working normally yesterday but today when I turned it on it just showed the power and charging light but a black screen. The fans don't even start. I have tried the take the battery and charging cord out then hold the power button down for 30 seconds to 2 minutes then put everything (battery and charging cord) back but the screen is still black. Please help.
