Acer Aspire wifi Missing drivers

Hello As I'm not overly computer generated I'm forced to ask the Wizards of computer magic lol: I was given an acer aspire m5 that a friend has wiped clean and down loaded windows 7 but incorrectly which now prevents me from accessing the Internet doesn't pick up wifi signals and tells me it is missing drivers etc: if I were to have or get say windows 8 and install it would this solve my issues:-)
