My dell 15r special edition stopped working. When I tried to restart it, it just "booted" to a black screen with a blinking underscore. There is nothing connected or cds/dvds in the drive. I tried to remove the battery and power, but still no change. When I press ctr+alt+del it will go to a config utility option if I press Cntr+I but the only options is changing to non RAID or exit. If I don't press anything, the dell logo will appear, but nothing happens after that. Pressing the function keys at any point during that does nothing.

Can you try F12 (multiple times after you start the laptop). You can run the internal diagnostic programs that Dell provides from that screen.

Nope pressing F12 does nothing, if I press it enough times it will beep loudly (as will most of the keys if I repeatedly press them)

It looks like you need a computer tech to diagnose the problem. Nothing beats "hands on" access to the hardware. Perhaps a local repair shop?
