STEPS:
1. Boot up as normal, and wait until you see the cursor on the black screen
2. When you're booted, press Ctrl+Alt+Del
3. In the Processes tab of the Task Manager, find explorer.exe
4. If you find one, right-click it and select End Process
5. Select File ? Run
6. Enter explorer and press Enter - the desktop should show up
7. After it has finished loading, reboot
8. This time, your desktop will show up without the black screen

Please let us know some more facts about your situation.

thank you, its an Acer Aspire V5-122P 4GB 500GB 11.6 inch Windows 8 Touchscreen Laptop, while installing updates it restarted for automatic repairs and now seems to be stuck in a loop, it doesn;t seem to get passed that stage. it started 2 days ago, also tried to download windows 8.1 cause I couldn't get access to alot of the apps like facebook and youtube but that didn't work either

WOW. Well the windows update to 8.1 iwas going to be my fix, as 8 shipped with alot of problems. But, if you cannot even get 8.1 to run. I am not certain where to go next.

Well, since you already have an 8 license, you could do a whole new install. Runs a chkdsk from a dos prompt running from a usb boot. See if it is your HD. Start there. If you need help booting into USB stick, let us know.
