Laptop not detecting HDD

when i turn on my DELL laptop inspiron 14r ,it shows me error !!
ERROR- "check cable connection and no operating system found"
i tried booting but it dint help me and when i checked hardware in setup , it shows no HDD found!!
is there any other way than replacing it??
if NO then do i have any option to recover the data from the harddrive??

Go to the BIOS setup, & change the disk controller setting from AHCI to IDE.
