Hello, I bought a Dell Dimension 9100 years ago and I want to fix it up and make it into a gaming computer. However, there is a huge problem with it. It won't load up. When I turn it on, it just shows the Windows loading screen and I thought since it's been years since it's been on, it would take a while. But I left it on for about 13 hours, and still the loading screen. I can't do anything with it, I can't access safe mode, or anything at all.

So my question... Does that mean that I need a new harddrive? If not, what do you think the problem is?

And an additional question, is the case good enough to upgrade all the parts into a gaming computer?

Thanks in advance for the answers!!! :)

The computer uses the aborted BTX system format and the case is probably not compatible with new standard motherboards. I suspect you would be better off starting with a new $50 case.

Good Luck

My main question was about the problem with the booting. Is it a hard drive issue? Are you just saying to buy everything new and build my own computer?

You said you wanted to upgrade "all the parts". This Dell does not use industry standard parts so it would not be a good candidate for upgrading a few parts. The CPU is a single core Pentium 4 that is near useless for current games. You might have compatibility problems with the current generation of Video cards also.

If you just want to get the PC running I would start by re-installing Windows. If that fails to fix the problem then I would buy a new hard drive and re-install Windows again.
