Sleepy monitor

Hello,
I have a desktop computer my monitor will say no signal and go to sleep I have taken it to get fixed and it worked at the other location but when I hooked my cords back up to it it did the same thing. I guess my question is can my cords cause this issue even when the actual computer comes on and boots and how to resolve this issue

The monitor goes to sleep when it can't detect a signal from the computer. So, it's either a cord problem or a video card problem.
