No icons explorer stopped working

Hello,
When I turn on my computer I get a message that says windows explorer stopped working, windows will check for solution. A few seconds later a message pops up saying windows explorer stopped working and will shut down, then the box closes and task bar disappears and then there are no icons or task bar on desktop. The last thing that happened before this problem started was when the computer was shut down the night before, it said it was installing an update
