Hello posh,
Did you hear any beeps?
I thought that you not able to view nothing on the screen.
Try to connect any external monitor on your laptop and see that whether any display on that

Hello posh,
I thought may be it is display issue!
ok lets do one thing first, Backup the data in your Hard disk to the safest place you can!
First,
You did not hear beeps ok are you sure you hear the fan rotating sound inside the casing of your laptop?

data is safe. I have opened it; the fan does not spin the instant I switch the laptop on but after a minute or so

Though your motherboard is of faulty one.. which causes lag in everything and does not get the power for it from the adapter, Did you see the CMOS battery in your laptop try to reseat it is still problem persists then you must need a help of a technician. if not then it is time to buy a new one

Hello posh,
Thought that your motherboard is faulty one as a final check remove the RAM from the slot and then switch on the laptop and see whether it beeps if not you get into conclusion that your MOBO is faulty..

It is better to reply us whether the problem is resolved or not!
