Can't connect to the internet.

Hello,
I can connect to my WiFi but it says I have no Internet connection. I tried connecting straight to my modem but it still doesn't work. It says the modem doesn't have a valid ip configuration. I think it is the modem that is the problem but I'm not sure. Unplugging the modem does nothing.
How do I fix my modem?
