No, the light indicates that the hard disk only has power.

Hi Killerbee and sorry for my late response
I am sorry for the problems caused by the hard drive. Actually, the light really indicates if the hard drive receives power. Could you tell me the model of your external drive? Does the drive appear in Disk Management? Does it have a drive letter and a file format? I strongly recommend you to check the drive with another USB cable and on another PC. Do you have any valuable data on the drive?
If the drive appears in Device Manager, uninstall it, restart the PC and plug the drive back in.
