I have a Toshiba Satellite with Windows 8. When I turn on the laptop, the fans run as though it's booting up, but the screen remains black. Then the fans slow and then run again.
Does anyone have any suggestions on how to remedy this?

Hi gret04,

Do you hear any beeping noises coming from the laptop? If there are none, there may be an issue with the motherboard. What you described with the fans may be a power supply problem too. Are you using the laptop with the power cable plugged in? Try with another power cable. If the laptop has warranty, contact the reseller.

Hope this helps

Thank you for your response. I do believe it is with the hard drive. While I am disappointed, it's not the end of the world.
Thank you again

In fact, this could be a hardware issue, related with another component. You are right that the hard drive may be failing, but check all the options. If you cannot see even the BIOS menu, this may not be hard drive related issue. The BIOS menu should be accessible even without a hard drive connected.

So, it could possibly be the screen?
I may just take it to a local computer repair place and have them take a look. I just can't see putting to much into a $300 computer.
I do appreciate your response. Thank you!
