Did you able to remove RAM?
Switch off the PC and try to remove the RAM. If you have 2 then remove both.

I have two pairs of ram 6gb in all.

It would appear that the two banks of 2gb were suspect.
I removed all the ram then tried each pair until I finally got the system to boot.
It's a bit slow now so I will have to get new ram.
