Hello anna,
Can you see the led light blinking when you try to start your laptop? I also need to know how many beeps do you hear /if there are any/ when trying to boot up the Dell. If you just start your laptop in Safe mode and try to access the data I don't see any reason that it won't work so I think you should try that.
Once you have entered the Safe mode, enter the Command prompt and type the following command:
sfc /scannow
Then hit Enter and wait for your system to be repaired. It might take some time. Come here afterwards with the result of the test.
