I recently factory reset my Toshiba satellite laptop L745. Whenever I try to power it on I get a message that says "The computer restarted unexceptedly or encountered an unexpected error. Windows installation cannot proceed. To install Windows, click " OK" to restart the computer, and then restart the installation. " However whenever I hit ok it just restarts the computer and displays the same message. Help please.

Hello dlb000000,

How did you reset your laptop to factory settings? Have you got a Windows repair CD? For some reason Windows is unable complete the installation and that reason could be due either to corrupted version of Windows or errors on the hard drive. I suggest that you try to make fresh install of Windows if you have the option.
For that purpose you should try to make yourself a Linux Live CD on another PC and try to make full erase of your drive. Then, you could try installation from a bootable USB drive.

Let know if that helped.

Hi again,

I doubt that it would be a good idea having two OS on the same flash drive. That's why I suggest that you try to find another USB and install the Ubuntu there. But before you do that, try to boot into Safe mode and open Command prompt. There, please enter the following command:
sfc /scannow and hit Enter
Wait for the system to be repaired and come here afterwards to tell me what happened.

Good luck.

Hi, thanks for your continued support. I booted my laptop via the USB with the windows installer on it. I then chose " repair your computer " and opened the command prompt. After typing in sfc /scannow it said "there is a system repair pending which requires reboot to complete. Restart windows and run sfc again" I can't restart because the only way to boot my computer is through the USB and restarting it will just restart the installation. How would I go about installing Ubuntu and what does it do?

Hey there,

I believe at the Ubuntu forums, there's a plenty of info on how to create a LiveCD/LiveUSB. When you download the .iso file you have made and image therefore make it a bootable drive. Once you're done with that you can boot from the Ubuntu flash drive even without installing the OS on your hard drive. It will give you the option to make "a virtual tour" of the OS and you should be able to access the hard drive to test it.

Hope that helps.
