Hey there.
Can you hear any unusual sounds/noises coming from the drive? Do you need to recover data from it. I assume that you are referring to an external HDD, but please correct me if I'm wrong. Try the drive with a different USB cable and a different USB port, to see if the issue still persists. It would be even better if you could try it with a different computer.
If you don't need the data on it, you could download the HDD manufacturer's diagnostic tool and test the drive for errors and bad sectors.
