My window 8.1 laptop cant detect toshiba external hard disk

Hello,
i dont know why my laptop cant detect external hard disk now, but before i go to cybercafe, it worked just fine. I go to cybercafe which use window xp to copy dota 2, there, the pc can detect and i copy all dota 2 files. then after i go home to copy, my laptop cant detect my external hard disk. furthermore, i have a lot of important documents in that hard disk. Sob3 T.T. help me pls.
Can someone please help me with this problem?
P/S: sorry for bad english

You made an illegal copy of a movie? And now you hard drive has a virus?

Hi 1_digit_iq_person,
Please open Disk Management and check if the drive appears there. Does it have a file format and a drive letter? If the drive is not listed there, open Device Manager and search it there, under USB devices. Check the hard drive on another PC and with another USB cable. Have you tried going back to the cybercafé and checking the drive there? Update your anti virus software and do complete system check.
