Range extender not connecting

Hello,

I'm trying to set up my range extender and it's not connecting. Does it have to be in the same house as the router because we are trying to extend my mom's wifi to my house.we are not far away. 10-15 yards away

It's a belkin wifi range extender Max n600db.

I would try installing the range extender in your Mom's house as close as you can get you yours.

It needs to get a usable signal from the router before it can work.
