Wireless connection on Laptop

Hello :)

Okay here's my problem I hope to make it as clear as possible.

I bought a Dell Inspiron 600m off a friend for school use. We had to re-install Windows xp on it because he had a lot of files on there. I don't have any 'Dell' software on my laptop nor do I have any CD's that provide me with any Dell software.

I have been trying to connect to the internet but I can't seem to do that. I think my problem is that in the process of reinstalling Windows XP, I lost all my Drivers.

Under Device Manager, the following have yellow exclamation marks;

Multimedia Audio Controller
Network Controller
PCI Modem
Video Controller (VGA Compatible)

They all say 'The drivers for this device are not installed (Code 28)' under Device Status.

I have been to dell's website but I don't know which files to download....can anyone tell me?

Please guys I need help with this...I would pay a professional to fix it for me but I don't have the money since I'm in school. Any help is MUCH appreciated.

Alright, I know that's the site I need to go to download the Drivers...that's not the problem.. I just don't know WHICH files I need. Like I said, I am missing drivers for the following;


Multimedia Audio Controller
Network Controller
PCI Modem
Video Controller (VGA Compatible)

Which files do I need to download and install from that website? Thanks a lot for your time.

Download, install and run Everest on your computer. After copy/paste the quickly report (format text) in your next message. Everest will make a list of your devices.

I hope I did that right. I wasn't sure exactly how to use the program. Anyways, I did my best and I hope it's all the information you need. Again, the laptop is a Dell Inspiron 600m, and I seem to be missing driver software because I can't connect to the internet. I looked up my laptop on Dell.com and downloaded a bunch of files from the network section but they didn't solve the problem.

Please help. I really appreciate your time and effort.

Would it be too much to ask another question?

Now that I have all the drivers/software to connect to the internet, I seem to be unable to connect to my network for some reason.

I can see my network under "Wireless Network Connections" but when I click Connect on it, says 'Windows unable to connect...the network may no longer be in range...' Which is weird because I was able to connect to a couple of my neighbors' unsecured networks.

How do I fix this?

I use a D-Link Router. It is the DI-524

Hello Again,

Have you resolved your Network issue? I had to buy a wireless router to connect my Vista laptop to my XP destop. I found the best one was the D-Link Dir 655. I'll look for your post(s) under networking in case you don't see this post.

Hello,

You may have to create a user name and password once you go to the Dell site. I signed in and got the below link for you when I typed in Inspiron 600m then selected Drivers & Downloads.
