Hello,

I have a Lenovo Z560 which is 3 years old. As I searched on internet and came to know it can be due to overheating but I can see my laptop is not getting any hot. I can also see its fan is not blowing any hot air. It can shutdown any time while opening browser, playing audio, installing software.

The first thing to check is the memory modules. If you have two try running with only one (to identify the bad module). You could also clean the contacts with a new pencil eraser. Don't touch the contacts with your fingers

Thank you for giving your time. I kindly request you to go through the reply which I had given below. I have uploaded the new image showing temperatures. If you still suggests the same then let me know.

Hi

The temperatures indicated appear to be excessive.

Installation of adhesive rubber feet and notebook cooler can also help. Along with that, cleaning the laptop and optimizing the ventilation of the laptop can help to get rid of the overheating problem.

It is possible that the fan has failed and/or is plugged with dust. If possible I suggest blowing accumulated dust from the laptop. I do not advise disassembling the laptop in an attempt to clean it.

Good Luck

Sorry for the late reply.
There was one setting in my laptop to change the fan speed. I am sending you the image of that. I did changed the setting and the temp reduced to some extent and the laptop worked well for few days. Now from past few days I am again having a similar problem but this time laptop restarts on its own. Sometimes it gave blue screen of error before going off. I am also attaching image of the temp readings after changing the setting.
please help.

Hi again

You have mentioned a blue screen that sometimes appears.

Download the following on your desktop:

http://www.nirsoft.net/utils/bluescreenview.zip

Unzip the file

Double click on BlueScreenView.exe

At the end of the scan, click on edit and then on select all

Go on file and click on save selected items

Save the log as bsod.txt

Open bsod.txt, copy and paste here

Hello

I have returned.

I would like to see if it's a driver issue, which driver is causing the shutdowns and the bsod.

Restart your laptop.

From command prompt (run), as administrator, please run:

verifier.exe

A window will appear showing the loaded, unloaded and never loaded drivers.

Please capture the entire window and paste back here and we will have a look at it.

Regards

I want to add few more things. The images I have attached above were when I was operating in safe mode with networking. Now I have taken readings operating in normal mode which I am attaching here.

Do you think this problem can be due to viruses. My laptop is behaving in very random manner. Today when I was starting it in normal mode it went off just after the windows logo appeared. This happened 3-4 times. Then I started it in safe mode with networking and it didn't shut down lie it was happening in normal mode. I have observed one more thing that even if it manages to start in normal mode also it is running very slow. I need to wait so long for it to perform any task.

Oh boy !

Okay run verifier again:

1. Select 2nd option - Create custom settings (for code developers)
2. Select 2nd option - Select individual settings from a full list.
3. Check the boxes
• Special Pool
• Pool Tracking
• Force IRQL checking
4. Select last option - Select driver names from a list
5. Click on the Provider heading - sorts list by Provider
6. Check ALL boxes where Microsoft is not the Provider

Yes that's the one !

The crash took place in a standard Microsoft module. Likely the culprit is another driver on your system which cannot be identified.

However I suspect your graphic card driver.

Let try this, download, install and run slimdriver (it's free):

Read what it can do.

https://ccm.net/downloads/security-and-maintenance/7151-slimdrivers/

See the results you get and update the drivers accordingly.

Good luck

Please just update all the drivers indicated by slim driver.

Formatting Windows will not help, it will just put back the old drivers.

Done with the process. I would like to mention one thing that the blue screen of error has not been occurred in past 3 days. But the laptop takes so much time for any simple operation when in normal mode and works faster in safe mode. When I start the laptop the screen goes black for some time after the windows logo appears and then desktop comes after some time.
What could be the reason?

To help you and prescribe the remedy, I must make a diagnostic and to do so, I require a report.

1. Open this link and download ZHPDiag :
https://nicolascoolman.eu
(Don't be alarmed is the site is in French, it sometimes happens, the tool will take your system language and allow the download if you get a warning message, ignore it.) Click on the download button

2. Save the file on your Desktop.

3. Double click on ZHPDiag.exe and follow the installation instructions.

(For Vista, Win 7 and 8 users, click right to ensure you execute with admin right)

4. Double click on the short cut ZHPDiag on your Destktop.

5 Click on scan
Wait for the tool to finished (maybe a long time)

6. Close ZHPDiag.

7. To transmit the report, click on this link :

http://www.tinyupload.com/index.php

8. Search the directory where you installed ZHPDiag (usually C:\desktop\zhpdiag.txt).
9. Copy the url link obtained from tinyupload and paste it here in your reply.

Thanks for all your support. Today I was having so much problem with the laptop so I formatted the windows and installed a new one. Since then it is running fine as of now as there are only few software and drivers are installed right now. But if the problem in my laptop was due to viruses then I guess those must be still present even after reinstalling the windows. So you still want me to do all the above mention process or not.

No that will not be necessary.

Had I known that your were willing to reset to factory settings and lose all of your data, I would have not have gone through all of the steps I went through with you.

It's okay, I guess that you ran out of patience.

Good luck

P.S. When things don't happen right away, remember that it takes 6 months to build a Rolls Royce but only 13 hours to build a Toyota. Troubleshooting a computer in a forum environment is like building a RR.

To speed up your machine:

1. use this for cleaning the registry:

https://ccm.net/downloads/security-and-maintenance/4555-ccleaner/

2. After the above, defragment your hard disk, it may take very long so...be patient, it's worth it.

Good luck
