It's possible you will need to install a new hard drive and a fresh copy of Windows. Perhaps a local PC repair shop can help you.

Hi Sian,
Like xpcman suggested, it would be helpful to try doing a fresh Windows install. There may be a startup issue that is usually resolved with a new installation. If you do not want to reinstall Windows, boot from a Windows installation drive and select the Repair option. It may fix the problem too.
If the issue persists even after a new installation, it is possible that the drive has failed or is about to fail. If the laptop is under warranty, contact the seller. If warranty has expired, you should connect the hard drive in a desktop PC and download the drive manufacturer’s diagnostic tool. Do complete drive check. If the results are bad, you should think about changing the drive.
Hope this helps
