The Sims 3 will crash when I close my laptop

I've been playing the game for a long time now, but only in the last few days it began crashing everytime I close my laptop with it open. I will open my laptop up again, get past the Windows lock screen, then the game will open up and a few seconds later it will crash and I have to load it again without having saved anything. Can I fix this?
