Computer turns on but no display

This computer stopped working a while ago but haven't been trying to fix it until now.
When it first stopped working it would turn on for a little while, then turn off.
But now, it turns on and stays on, but there is no display.
What should I do?

To troubleshoot, try an external monitor.
