I just installed windows xp (professional)

I don't think I have a sound device installed as I can no longer hear anything.
Presumably no microphone either.

Control panel, sounds and audio devices reports "NO audio device"

When tryin to use windows media player I get :

You've encountered error message C00D11BA while using Windows Media Player. Windows Media Player cannot play the file because there is a problem with your sound device, such as a sound card or sound controller.

How do I determine if there is a sound device installed and what is the make model etc. ?
If not, how can I download one ?
If there is, how do I check for the latest driver ?

I have read some of the other threads on this issue and still couldn't progress, I would appreciate very simple instructions

Dear JCB,

This is for the fact that there is a new operating system and you should have its sound driver updated for having it working properly.

Thank you.
