Amazon Chime is a secure and all-embracing communications service created by Amazon Web Services (AWS). Launched in 2017, the Amazon Chime app lets you organize video conferences and business calls with people from inside and outside your organization.
What is Amazon Chime?
As mentioned in the introduction of this article, Amazon Chime is part of Amazon Web Services, commonly abbreviated to AWS. Amazon Web Services offers more than 165 cloud computing services for databases, networking, analytics, development tools, security, and artificial intelligence (AI). Just to provide some context for the ones who wonder how big AWS really is: More than 80% of all Fortune 500 companies are powered by its technology.
What are the key features of Amazon Chime?
-
Meetings and video conferences: Chime offers easy-to-schedule meetings that can be joined with a simple tap. Delayed participants may use the Running Late button to let others know they are behind schedule. Features available during Chime conferences include screen share, meeting recording, and roster view.
-
Team collaboration: Chime is an excellent collaboration tool for you and your colleagues. There are private and group chat rooms, in which you can share files up to 50 MB and use @mentions to direct message specific participants. Slack users can integrate the Chime app to start and join meetings directly from a Slack workspace.
-
Business calls: You can make and receive traditional phone calls and text messages to and from over 100 countries around the world. Whenever you cannot answer, Chime voicemail will answer the call for you.
-
Security: Being part of Amazon Web Services, Chime benefits from the best possible security standards in the industry. All your messages, voice, video and media content is protected using AES 256-bit encryption
Is Amazon Chime free?
Like most of its competitors, including Zoom, Microsoft Teams and Webex Chime offers free and paid (Pro) pricing plans. Free users can attend conferences, but they won't be able to host a Chime meeting. Other features only available on a Pro plan are for instance: dial-in numbers for meetings, personalized meeting links and meeting recording. The costs for Chime Pro range between $3 and $15 per user per month.
