Rust is an online, multiplayer, PvP, survival game developed by the independent game studio Facepunch Studios and released on February 2018 on PC and Mac and on May 2021 on XboxOne and PS4. Welcome to a place where nature has taken over, where the island will hunt you down, welcome to Rust.

Gameplay

  • Gameplay: Rust is a survival game where players have to fight to stay alive, launch the game, pick a servier and you wake up completely naked on a new and mysterious island with up to 400 other players with only a rock and a torch. To survive you will have to craft tools, equipment, and weapons, improve your shelter and build a fortified place. You will also have to stay alive as other players and animals will eventually try to kill you, every death is permanent and you will lose everything so you will have to restart from scratch.

  • Survival: To avoid death you will always have to keep an eye on various indicators like hunger, hydration, body temperature, bleeding, comfort, poison, radiation poisoning, drowning, wounded, trivia and health. All of those indicators can be influenced based on what you eat, drink, but also on what kind of biome you are and the current weather conditions, etc.

  • Cooperation: Even though the place is hostile you will be able to play with other players, build teams and community, but also elaborate strategy and organize raids against other players’ teams. Join your friend or meet new teammates and start to build your own clan in order to rule the island.

  • Biomes: Rust islands have plenty of different biomes, each of them with its own environment, climate, wildlife, and plant life. Available biomes are trivia, snow, desert, temperate grassland plains, temperate grassland hills, temperate forest, beach, river, and ocean.

  • Crafting process: Really basic items can be crafted with only the required materials, basic items include torch, campfire, rock, building plan, etc. To craft every other item you will have to own a workbench, the required materials, and the item’s related blueprint. Note that each item has a “craft level” from 1 to 3, including the workbench, which means you can only craft an item if you also have a workbench with at least the item’s level. Moreover, the higher the workbench’s level the quicker an object is crafted.

  • Blueprint model: Every game’s item is defined by its related blueprint, it defines the required materials in order to craft an item. A blueprint can be obtained in two ways, either you have to find it on the island, or, if you already have the item, you can create the blueprint by researching it in a Research Table.

  • Building: You can create your own structure in order to both store your loot and protect yourself from threats. You are allowed to build in areas where other players don’t have building privileges. Structures have building tiers which define how advanced your structure materials are, building tiers are wood, stone, metal, and armored; only the wood tier can be built directly, to upgrade to a given tier you will have to consecutively upgrade your structure until you reach the tier. Note that if you don’t regularly repair your structures they will progressively decay until breaking.
