Chat history lost over a changed number

Hello,

I changed my phone number on WhatsApp. For some reason, people were not getting my messages so I tried reinstalling the app, knowing everything is backed up on Drive. Unfortunately, WhatsApp was not able to retrieve my chat history because in the morning I changed the number so it didn't match the older number on which everything was backed up. Now I'm trying to find a way to get this chat history from Drive. It's there but I can't access it.
Can anyone help?

Hello, try putting back in the old sim with the old number and have a read through this article on how to transfer WhatsApp messages to a new phone without losing data.
