Light not working

Hello,
When I turn on my laptop, the power comes on, along with the lights, but nothing comes up on the screen. my dad thinks it has something to do with the electricity in the laptop and my brother thinks that it is a virus. i've tryed turning it off and on again, i've tryed waiting for the screen to come on, i've tryed taking the battery out and and turned it on using only the power from the charger to get the screen working but nothing has worked. What should I do? HELP!
