Problem viewing icons on my laptop

Hello,
today i decided to switch my loptop. it was working all right then while on the net my laptop froze and i had to turn it off without passing thru the normal procedure. when i switched it on again, everything on it had vanished. i tried the ctrl alt del method and i was told the task manager had been disabled please what should i do iwant to use it this evening.
