Hello, i have posted this on about 5 websites over the last 24 hours none of which have been able to help. its been gone for a week now please help.

I have looked at lots of questions on the internet and its been dead for a week now, it is not a router or ip provider problem as both my laptop and playstation connect absolutely fine, i ussually use a ethernet cable connected to my router and when that died i swapped to wireless which worked for less than a day before dying also, had been fine for months.

If i do a complete restart of the router (unplug for 10 seconds) and then start it again my pc will connect to the internet for literally less than a second before going back to local only, and it does connect because it says that i receive packets, but this stops after literally a second.

I am running windows vista, Dell xps
I have already done a system restore, isp provider has also checked and everything is fine

Thought id add some more info, none of this means much to me though (._. )

IPv4 connectivity: Local
IPv6 connectivity: Limited

When i diagnose i get 3 solutions, restart adapter, router or get new ip none work. restart router enables me to connect for a second though as stated before. if i diagnose with wireless i get no solutions just unknown reason, but if i just got my wired working id be happy

Windows Vista Home Premium (6.0, Build 6000)
2.4ghz Quadcore
2046GB ram

Full reinstall of windows is a last resort thing, i have ALOT of stuff on this pc 200gigs of it and no vista CD or way of backing it up :(

More stuff that sounds important, and bad

Ran a test it said:
(i)This adapter is configured to obatain an IP adress automatically. No DHCP server is present on the network. Windows selected an IP adress using Alternative Private IP Adressing.
(x)Ping gateway 0.0.0.0 : Failed
/!\ No DNS server is available for this connection
/!\ No WINS server is available for this connection
(x) Ping Network 0.0.0.0 : Failed

SADPANDA, sorry for MASSES of text wanted to give as much detail as possible.

Im not a computer wizz i dont even understand half of what i just wrote hehe :)

Although i dont know alot about computers ive read ALOT over the last 24 hours and done an ipconfig in cmd prompt and it turns out that my ipv4 adress looks normal: 192.168.1.5 / subnet mas 255.255.255.0 / default gateway 192.168.1.1 however my ipv6 adress is fe80::a9fd:cbf0:eala:f6a0%9 which doesnt look like a normal adress, i dont know however (._. )

Any help much appreciated. . . . ive been refreshing pages all day to no avail.

Reset WINSOCK entries to installation defaults: netsh winsock reset catalog
This step went fine.

Reset IPv4 TCP/IP stack to installation defaults. netsh int ipv4 reset reset.log
This step couldnt reset echo request and said access denied, but the rest of it said ok!

Reset IPv6 TCP/IP stack to installation defaults. netsh int ipv6 reset reset.log
None of this step worked because it had the same error as the ipv4 with the access denied but also it didnt do the rest as it said there was no specified settings to reset.

I definately ran it as admin, no idea why it said no permission.

However i reset my computer after doing all of them again and got the ipconfig /all . This is it:
