Computer charging trouble

Hello,
i have a gateway laptop. just recently it stoped working. we took it to geek squad and they said the mothernoard was bad. i didnt think that was the problem so i started messing with the charger and the input on the laptop because it wouldnt charge up and if i have the chargeer in the laptop and the laptop is on its side pushing on the charger it starts to charge.
