Ipod touch not recognised by iTunes Closed

Hello,
The last few days has seen my ipod touch not being recognised by iTunes. Today a message kept coming up on iTunes saying "This ipod cannot be used because the Apple Mobile Device is not started" What dod I do? I use Windows Vista BTW. Thanks, Reved
