Icons won't connect me

Hello,
All my icons show up on the desktop, but once I click on them they automatically take me to a screen that asks what I program I want to use to open that particular file. I've been getting on the Internet by opening up My Favs and clicking on one of them to launch the internet? Please help me I'm not very good at computers!

Your icons (shortcut icons) in your desktop may not be directing you to the installed programs or may be deleted,only showing you shortcuts..
