my msn messenger won't work Solved/Closed

Question

Hello,
my msn messenger doesn't work... after updating to messenger beta when I try to sign in... a box appears with the don't send option....
I have tried to remove msn from the system but is impossible... I can't find it in the control panel.... When I remove it manually it still recognizes it and I can't install some other version becouse its older then the present one...
help me  please... what should I do...???

I have tried everything to get msn messenger working been like in for the last three weeks ive unistalled it and reinstalled it and it still wont work! the last time i uninstalled it everytime i try to download it now it wont let me install the messenger part? anyone have any idea how to fix this problem im using VISTA.

You should have someone- a friend come and see if they can help you.
Becuase it does good for another person who isnt used to your computer, and look around and go to places you would normally look!

if you have McAfee, try shutting down the firewall, that happened to me and i did that , it worked. :)

I don't know how but i spent 2hrs last night sorting it out and ive actually managed to get the new messenger and get it working... installed it a few times and completely wiped msn off n its paid off :) x

all u need to do is install an Uninstaller program...! search on google like "uninstaller" i'd recommend "MY UNINSTALLER" ... once the program is there.. run it .. it'd search fr every posible thng tht can be uninstalled from ur pc.. n there it is! press the uninstall button once u've got the list of uninstallable installs n for sure ur messenger wud be there... im sure coz ive tried... once u hv uninstalled .. u can easily install any older version u want to! :)

mine didn't work either cause of the old ver of windowsblinds but i fixed it by usein the new vers u should reinstall win and the updates then install msn 2009 and it shuold work then go through ll ur other programs instllni and tryin msn makein sure it still works andif it don't then it could be bec. u need a newer ver of that program or wont work with the program. sorry fot typos this keyboard sucks lol

Hey, i had same problem you have to have time right on the computer to make it work i think that's what helped me, and if you cant find it in control panel look for windows live essentials its in there. want more help just ask :)

WLM made me install newest version,forbidding me to sign in unless otherwise. Everything is now installed. I get the "not working" message when i run the messenger (cleared email cache). Fudge.

How I solved my MSN problem
ALright i installed new msn thought it was gay and went back to 8.5
I couldnt log in just like the rest of you
Now I solved this by going to mess.be and installing the 8.5 patch
This solved my problems and I could log in

Okay i downloaded the new msn and when i try to talk to people i dont see their response and they dont see anything i say.
I don't want to go back to old messanger because well It sucks cactus big time.

you should go to msn saved file directory where the place store all msn files and registries, from there, you would see a folder name called "INSTALLER", from there, u will see two installer files, u lauch the installer and an interface will pop out and from there you can inistall window live 9.

example: C:/rpogram/window live/installer

Hey I was having this problem too!! I downloaded the new MSN and couldn't get signed in... confusing to say the least!

To fix this: Uninstall Nvidia Network Access Manager!!

Do that and you will get signed in

I hate this F'ing program.  Mine won't sign me in, says I'm not connected to the internet.  Don't know how I am writing this right now.  This stupid Vista and other MS components have made me feel computer illiterate since I purchased this new laptop.  Makes me want to by a Mac, and I hate Macs.  Maybe Google should make an OS for PC's.

am getting a problem with it where every week or two, it gives me error 81000803 (i think it is, meaning it cant resolve host file names, and i have tried ALL THE ADVICE  but dosnt help)
so i found i could generally re-instal it, however sometimes like now..
THAT too dosnt work.
what seems to be happening is when i try to instal the installer tells me i ALREADY HAVE IT INSTALLED and i dont, i know this becuase i went to addd or remove programmes and removed it myself! AND went into programme files and removed all the leftover rubbish.. YET it still tells me it is in here some where, 
if it is, then why cant i see it to remove it.. and if it is gone, why why why WONT IT RECOGNISE it?

am on xp sp3 and trying to re-instal latest 2009 live messenger

This may sound slightly odd but do you have zwinky downloaded somewhere on your computer?
I had the same problem a while ago and found out it was to do with zwinky which affects your msn. If so uninstall it and see if it makes a difference. (:

hey,
the same problem happened to me and i couldnt solve it myself in any way until i found the solution online.
you just have to click start, then run, and then type the following: msiexec /x {0AAA9C97-74D4-47CE-B089-0B147EF3553C}
this will automatically uninstall your messenger. then all you have to do is go to the msn.com website, click on messenger, then install, it will display this time that you dont already have the messenger program and it will install it again for you,

You see, I have 4 accounts, but online 1 is active for messenger, the rest is for work.. 

The problem is Only the active email cannot use the messenger properly like others, and only in my laptop. I tried to use in other PC, it worked... but not in my PC. can't you help me please???

Ok follow these steps to make messenger work:
(* = optional)

-Uninstall messenger. I recommend ZapMessenger (https://messengergeek.wordpress.com/!E3785B1281BBDA1!1118.entry?sa=143276365). *
-Next go to https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/windows-essentials-2707b879-5004-4349-c4a4-e5900945f2a9 and download the latest version on messenger. *
-After that right click on the msn icon and click properties.
-Under the shorcut tab click on the 'Advances...' button.
-Check the 'Run as administrator' box.
-Then click ok.

I know that for some people you are not the Administrator so you will require someone's password but this is the only way that is works (that i know of).


These are instructions for making it work for Vista so it might be slightly different.

I had the new version of msn then one week it stop signing me in and came up with a small box which then gave me a link, on that link there was a site to download the new msn messenger 9.0, i then clicked download but it wouldnt appear on my laptop. It was weird but i have to live without it now because i cant find a cure.

The problem is a firewall (provably in your adsl/wireless router) stopping connections to port 1863. Microsoft's MSN for windows try to connect at this port and if it doesn't succeed, it tries a traditional http connection on port 80. Microsoft MSN for Mac, aparently, doesn't do this).

So you can try any of this 2 solutions:

1) disable/low down firewall rules in yout adsl/wireless router;

2) try a client who can be set to ust http connection. On Linux: aMsn, Pidgin, KMess, Emesene. On Mac I could get only aMsn working (I didn't find this setting on adium).

You may have a firewall (maybe on your internet modem, wifi router, or firewall program) blocking connections to port 1863 of msn default server. You can try any of these solutions:

1) disable/lowdown firewall rules or add an exclusion tho the required ports and protocols (advanced)

2) try a client with support to http connection ans set to use it. I've successfully connected with adium and amsn.
