Trouble backing up data onto WD My Book

Hello,

I have a Western Digital "My Book" external hard drive (500 gb Essential Edition that works on Windows Vista). I can see the green light (telling me that it's on) and can hear it working. However, it refuses to back up any data and keeps on giving me error messages. I've look through the forums here and haven't been able to find anything that can help my situation.

Any ideas?

For more help concerning this issue please provide more information also mentioning the error codes.

Thanks for responding, suff954.

Would the following count as more information, I'm sorry, I'm not sure what else to add:

Using Windows Vista Business
Service Pack 2
Running Intel(R) Core(TM)2 CPU 4300 @ 1.80GHz 1.80GHz
RAM: 2.00 GB
32-bit OS

The WD External Hard Drive is named "WD 5000AAJ External USB Device" under "Device Manager".

After waiting for my files to backup, I get the following error message window:

"Back Up Files:

The backup did not complete successfully. An error occurred. The following information might help you resolve the error: The system cannot find the path specified. (0x80070003)."

Any help is appreciated.
